The designation of the Stone Valley Byway has been in the works for 3 years. The Byway will promote community development, balancing economic development and tourism with stewardship of some of Vermont's outstanding intrinsic resources. Vermont's Byway Program has been expanding to include corridors throughout the state.

The application for Route 30 from Poultney south through Wells, Pawlet, Rupert, Dorset and Manchester will be submitted to the Scenery Preservation Council (SPC). It includes letters of support from local Selectboards and Planning Commissions, the VTrans' District Transportation Administrator, local businesses and organizations. The Corridor Management Plan along with the application is reviewed by the SPC who will then hold a public hearing in the Region to assess community support. Ultimately the Transportation Board makes the designation, enabling the potential funding of projects.
