Ira

The town of Ira is shaped like a lightning bolt, which is awesome. Ira does not have a store, gas station, stop light or post office, which is a different type of awesome. The town was named for Ira Allen, who fought with the Green Mountain Boys of the Revolutionary War. Historians believe that Ira Allen was never personally invested in the town even though it’s named for him. They also believe the town never had an official sanction for its existence and that its first residents were squatters. Today, though, the town charter is squared away; and town officials do a great job at keeping it that way.
